Drama or the Still Small Voice?

Sometimes when we are listening for the thunder we miss the whisper…  Have you noticed how much of what goes on in the world today is full of drama?  Have you thought about why that is? If you think about it, one of the reasons is it is people’s way of trying to get your attention and get you to believe them.  This is the way the world functions but it is not the way God functions. He always tells the truth so He expects us to believe His word and to hear His voice.

As you will probably recall when God wanted to talk with Elijah He did the following in 1 Kings 19:11-13,  11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, what doest thou here, Elijah?

God wasn’t in the drama, He wasn’t in the wind, wasn’t in the earthquake and wasn’t in the fire – he was in the still small voice.  It’s so important not to get caught up in all the drama around you because when you do it is easy to miss the still small voice.  God has many ways to speak to us such as an inward knowing, a dream or vision, an auditable voice, etc., but it’s easy to miss God if you are looking for Him to dramatically hit you over the head.

I can pick my husband’s voice out of a crowd of hundreds.  Why?  Because I have had many years of listening to him and am intimately familiar with his voice.  I can look at something that is written and most of the time can tell you if he wrote it.  Again, because of my familiarity with him and how he thinks.  The written Word of God has the same effect on us if we spend time in it and make it a part of our daily lives.  It causes us to become intimately familiar with God’s voice and His ways,  (the Bible says His sheep know his voice) so that when He wants to speak to us in various ways we will hear His voice.

Sometimes the ability to hear that still small voice is the difference between life and death.  One day many years ago I was sitting at home talking with a friend of mine.  We were not talking about spiritual things or doing anything spiritual, we were just chatting.  As I sat there a scene flashed very quickly before my eyes.  It wasn’t a long drawn out vision just a quick flash.  My middle son was about 7-8 I don’t remember exactly how old he was.  What I saw was him falling on a machete knife and killing himself.   The Lord was talking to me through Word of Wisdom (knowledge of the future).  It didn’t make sense in the natural.  We did not have such a knife and I couldn’t believe he would play with it if we did.  But I knew the voice of the Lord so I excused myself and went outside to check on my son.  Guess what I found? I found him playing in the yard with a machete that a little neighbor boy had gotten out of his garage!  That still small voice through a Word of Wisdom saved my sons life that day.

We must learn to separate ourselves from the drama of the world and be sensitive to the voice of the Lord.  Why don’t you make a commitment today to have some quiet time everyday with the Lord.  Even if you have to stay up late, get up early or use your lunch hour at work – get away with the Lord, spend time in the Word and you will begin to hear that “Still small voice.”

I love you.

As He is......

Sometimes God requires more of you than others, or more of you at other times in your life.  Do not compare yourself to others, they are not walking the exact same path that you are and do not have the same future you have.  You are God’s craftsmanship.  He knows how to build you into exactly what and who He created you to be.  But God works step by step and that’s one of the reasons He requires faith.  We have to have faith as He is taking us through the process.  Not only faith in God but faith in His ability to take you down that path.  The Word of God tells us He is able to finish the work that He began in us.  If the devil cannot get you to doubt God, his next step is to get you to doubt your ability to receive from God.

Many people don’t want to work for maturity and a closer more intimate relationship with the Lord; they expect God to say something like, “Walla” and they will be immediately made mature and pretty close to a finished work.   But that is not Gods pattern nor His way.   All through out the Word you will see He works line upon line and precept upon precept, from step to step, faith to faith and from victory to victory.

One of the reasons the Lord works in you the way he does is because your life is not just a bunch of circumstances and situations.  When God looks at you He has a master plan, a master blueprint.  In the finished plan you look incredibly like Jesus.  I once had a dream and in the dream I saw my husband sitting up on a hillside and I knew it was towards the end of his life.  I was walking toward him and kept looking because I couldn’t tell if it was him or Jesus.  The master plan of God is to conform us so that we look so much like Jesus that people will see Him in us.

The Holy Spirit brings instruction, correction and direction into our lives that will take us to that place of maturity where we become so much like Jesus that it’s hard to tell the difference.  The religious spirit will say, “Oh, I could never be like Jesus!”  It sounds good and even humble but it’s not.  If we disagree with the Word of God it does not make us humble – it makes us ignorant!  The word of God says in 1 John 4:17, “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment because AS HE IS SO ARE WE IN THIS WORLD.”   I have to confess to you that I have told the Lord on more than one occasion that this is the hardest scripture in the Word of God for me to believe. But I do believe it – I chose to believe it because it is the Word of God.

Jesus is perfection, and He has done everything needed for us to be conformed to that image.  When we were born again He deposited the seeds of His nature and character in us – He called it the fruit of the Spirit.  He gave us Himself, the living Word and the Holy Spirit to bring us to that place of holiness and intimacy with Him that is in our blueprint.  Now we have a part in this; we must work with the Lord.  We must lay aside the things that hinder us.  We must realize that our part is to be obedient to the Master builder, to be clay that is shapeable and moldable in His hands.  When we work with the plan and are quick to obey He can make us into a  vessel that He can pour His Son out of to a sick, sinful, dying world.

God will not make us obey Him.  Look at the children of Israel.  They wandered in the wilderness for 40 years and suffered many things that they did not have to and did not reach the promise.  Later the Lord said that He loathed that generation.  They resisted what God was trying to do in their lives.  We cannot do the same and expect any different results.

Many circumstances and situations in your life today are an opportunity to work with the Holy Spirit to build you into the image you were created to be. I believe one of the reasons that people like Paul, Peter and others of that time could count it all joy when they went through trials and tribulations is because they understood that the Master builder was making something great out of them every step of the way and,  that no matter what the enemy threw at them they were being built and molded by the hand of God.

Are there areas of your life where you are resisting the will of God?  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you do a spiritual check up and find out if there is anything you need to let go of, anything, any attitude you need to change.  I look forward to seeing you on that hillside….

If we can help you let us know.

Blessings,

I love you

No Future in the Past

We have had a dear friend Kathy visiting us.  She and I were setting at the kitchen table talking about life and lots of other things.  Little John was sitting there listening as he likes to do.  John said to us, “If you bring your past into your future your future will be the same as your past.”  A pretty profound statement for a 6 year old!  I’ve thought about that statement a lot.  It goes along with many things that my husband and I have written over the years.  So many people let their past dictate their future. When we do this it is difficult to  break free from the failures of the past. When you are a born again believer you don’t have an obligation to the past.  The past is gone, dead, buried – washed in the blood of Jesus.

The following paragraphs  are some exerts from an article I wrote in February of 2009 titled “There Ain’t No Future in the Past.”  You can read the full article on our website under the teaching letter archive for 2009. Read the article, it will help you.

I think that Paul probably more than any other writer of the New Testament understood the effect that our past can have on us. Paul seemed to understand the importance of the past, the present and the future. If you can understand the importance of each and how to put them in proper perspective you can walk in a level of freedom that many people never reach. With the world in the turmoil it is in and the return of the Lord drawing near it is especially important that we understand these things.

We are a three part being spirit, soul and body and we are perfected or matured on three time tables – past, present and future. As we walk through this life we have an obligation to each phase of our life. (1) We are to learn from the past (2) We are to work in the present and we are to (3) Hope in the future.  Each aspect of life past, present and future  work together to cause us to be the person that we are. But many people only live in the past.

As I am writing this blog this evening I know that some of you are bound by failures and disappointments of the past – everything you do is filtered through past experience, past failures  -  it has stolen your dreams and hope, it has tainted your faith.  You have tried many times with no success but today is a different day. Forget the past.  Let the word of God be the  filter in your life for your present and future.  Let the hope that is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ be your compass on your road to success.

Let me know what is on your heart and what the Lord is saying to you.   Remember this as you go through life this week – you are loved deeply and eternally  by the King of Kings, the King of all creation and there is nothing you and He can’t do together. Today is the day you can begin to slay the giants in your life.

I pray the blessing of the Lord upon you today – I pray that you have ears to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying. I pray that you would break through in areas that you have struggled in for a long time. I pray Ephesians 3:16-21 over you.

I love you,

Evelyn

God Doesn't Play The Political Correct Game

God doesn’t play the political correct game

We live in a world today where a whole generation has been brought up to believe that they are owed something, a generation where everyone gets the trophy.  I have never understood how anyone could think this is a good thing. If there is no personal achievement there is no pride in accomplishment.  If there is no responsibility there is no accountability and without accountability a nation or people fall.

God does not work in the same boundaries that we do.  Mankind is always trying to bring God down to our level.  God did come down to the level of humanity – when he (Jesus) was born in a manger and lived his life for 30+ years as a man and then surrendered himself to the hand of the enemy to be crucified for our sins.  Jesus rose again from the dead after having paid the price for sin so that we could become the children of God – not so that God could become the child of man. Because of that sacrifice we are able to reach higher than humanity and walk in a realm of holiness and righteousness that Jesus’ sacrifice made available to us. We are not bound to the idiotic ideas of man – the political correct systems of the world, we are bound only to God and to His system; and his system is love.

Many Christians have bought into the worlds system.  They go to churches that preach fufu and hear messages that tickle their ears, tell them what they want to hear; a message that leaves them spiritually dumbed down to where they don’t even recognize the voice of the Shepherd trying to direct them to a path away from the crowd. Jesus did not call us to all be alike; he called us each to be different – to rebel against this world system, to be conformed to His image, not common or the same.

The whole political correct garbage is a plan of the enemy.  The enemy wants you to march off the cliff along with a sin sick dying world into an eternity of hell.  Don’t be different he says, you’re no different than anyone else he says, God understands your weakness’ he says….

God deals with us one on one and holds us each individually accountable for the life we live.  When we stand before Him and the books are open he is not going to compare your life to your neighbor – He does not play the political correct game. He is not afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. He loves you enough to tell you the truth.  His standard does not change to fit what we want or desire.  True love, the God kind of love will tell you what you need to hear even if you don’t want to hear it.  When Jesus turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple or told the religious leaders that they were a brood of vipers or talked to the woman at the well do you think He told them what they wanted to hear? Jesus confronted them because He loved them.  If we are so politically correct that we do not speak the truth in love and allow people to march their way into hell without us challenging them can we say that we love?

It is time for a generation of David’s to stand up and run to face the enemy head on. Forget about political correctness – God don’t play that game and neither should you. When I was a younger Christian I worked for a large company; one of the bosses came into my office one day and made a comment about a sign I had that said, “I love JC.”  He asked me who JC was.  I was very timid and didn’t want to offend the man and just kind of stammered around and said a family member that had the same initials.  When the man left such conviction came over me that I just wanted to cry. The Lord then spoke to me very clearly and said, “Evelyn, don’t you think this man will be offended if he spends eternity in hell because you did not give him the gospel?”  I could have and should have given that man the gospel that day but I allowed political correctness, my concern about not offending him to stop me.   I did not love that man enough to give him the truth. I learned my lesson that day, not to let political correctness, intimidation, etc. to keep me from speaking the truth.   Speak out, be a voice for Jesus to this generation.  Speak the truth in love and let us work together to populate the Kingdom of God.

I love you

You Know Better Than I

My 6 year old loves the movie “Joseph the King of Dreams;” It is about the life of Joseph in the Old Testament.  There is a song in the movie where Joseph realizes that God used so much of what he went thru to bring him to a wonderful place, a place where his life became a preservative for God’s people.   The song goes, “You know better than I – You know the way.”  Every time I hear that song it makes me think about how smart God is and how grateful I am that the Lord God is in charge of my life.

The most wonderful things that the Lord has brought  into  my life I didn’t even know I needed.  Many years ago the Lord brought a wonderful man JP Timmons, into my life.  I had had a lot of sadness and loneliness in my life but I was content to love the Lord and be loved by Him. I thought that was my lot in life.  But just as the line in the song says, “You know better than I,” God knew what I needed more than I.  He brought this beautiful man of God into my life. God simply spoke to him and said, “Don’t be afraid this is the woman I have chosen for you.” And the Lord told me that He was not willing to wait till I got to Heaven to understand what unconditional love was, that He was answering a prayer I had prayed as a little girl when I asked Him to send someone to love me.

I didn’t know I needed Jesus till He showed Himself to me.  I didn’t know I needed my husband till God fill my heart with love for him.  I didn’t know I needed the children of our marriage till the Lord gave them to us.  Today, Valentine’s Day,  and our anniversary I am so thankful for the Lord and for the wonderful blessings He has brought into my life.

I leave you with this thought today; you can always trust God to know better than you.  Give Him all your life – don’t hold any part back.  Anything you hold back will not prosper, will not be a blessing.  No matter how bad you want something or don’t want to be in a situation you can trust Him to do what is best for you if you give it all to Him.  So many people never know this place of blessing and peace because they hold back areas of their life from Him.  He knows better than you – give your all to Him and watch it become a wonderful thing.

What a difference a day makes

As I got up to another very cold Southern Colorado morning I was thinking about how strange the weather has been here this winter.  A week or two ago we had a couple of days where the highs were in the low 70's and  then a day later the temperature was 50 degrees colder.  I thought what a difference a day makes.

I keep thinking "what a difference a day makes."  especially in the spirit realm.  Many of you know that if you want to change something here on earth you first have to change it in the spirit realm.  We Christians tend to get discouraged when we are fighting and believing for something because we don't see the results we are looking for as quickly as we think we should.  But a "day" makes all the difference in the world.  Many people give up just when  the change that they have been fighting for is about to manifest.

It's in the fire  that we are the most moldable.  It's in the places of difficulty that we find out what is in us  and allow God to prune and purge us.  Many years ago it was in one of these situations that I learned the value of the purging fire.  I was a young minister and had a great passion for the Lord and His work.  The Lord has anointed me to do what He had called me to do. I saw many saved and saw miracles.  But I had a major flaw.  That flaw was the need to please men - the care of what others thought of me.  This need hindered my full potential in Christ.  Everything I did for the Kingdom was tainted a little with this need.

The Lord began calling me to a deeper place - a place I could not take "the need" along with me.  As I responded to the deeper call of the Lord I began to walk through a fire that I had not before.  I went from having more than enough in every area to having to trust God for everything including food on a daily basis.  It was in this place that friends and associates, even family began to turn away from me.  They began to judge me incorrectly.  They saw the plenty in my life previously and now saw the lack and did not know how to  judge righteous judgment.  They began to gossip and say, "There must be sin in her Life" since they did not see the Lord prospering me, not knowing that true prosperity is to be in the presence of the Lord.   One by one they left me except for my immediate family.

I cried myself to sleep many nights but knew I was doing what the Lord had asked me to do. Those who were judging could not see in the spirit realm what was happening in my life.  In the natural this seemed like the darkest time of my life - and it was physically and soulishly  but in the spirit realm a great thing was happening.  The need to be approved by men was being pruned away by God.  A burden that had hindered me my whole life was being taken from me and I was being set free.

One night towards the end of my desert experience I had a supernatural experience that changed my thinking forever.  As I lay asleep with my kids in the tiny little travel trailer with a rotten floor and a broken toilette the voice of the Lord awakened me.  The Lord said to me, "Evelyn look out the window." I raised up and looked out the window and I saw a large beautiful star twinkling in the night sky.  The Lord then said to me, "You see  that star ? I just wanted you to know I made that one for you!"  What a difference a day made.  That day I went from feeling rejected and cast out to knowing with all my being that the Lord of Lords and King of Kings was forever in love with me.

Not only did deliverance come for me through this experience but not long after that my situation changed drastically. I am convinced that many of the wonderful things that the Lord has done in my life - like marrying the wonderful man of God that I am married to and the ministry experiences in many parts of the world were  birthed in that desert experience.

If your are going through a hard place don't give up.  Push in to Jesus as far as you can go and He will show you "what a difference a day can make."

Love you,

Evelyn

Hello Everyone

We hope you like our new website.  We are excited to be able to offer more areas to help you in your spiritual walk.  We should be completely functional in the next few weeks.  We will have online sermons that you will be able to listen to as well as this blog and a few other features you have not seen on our website before.  One area we are particularly excited about is a member area where our level of communication with those of you who are frequent visitors will be greatly improved.

We would love to hear from you - let us know what is on your heart and what you are hearing from the Lord.  We fight the fight of faith and we fight it together.  We are bound together to be the hands, the feet, the heart and voice of the Lord to this sin sick generation.

We are the last day Church that shall rise up in great power and victory - we shall usher in the return of the Lord.  I don't know about you but I find this very exciting.

Luke 10: 1-3

Praise God!
